So Smooth

Right after Carnival I purchased this album, and I must say it was money well spent. I had heard of some songs from the album like "Smooth" and "Maria, Maria" (which is one of my favourites), but it was only until I actually listened to the entire album that I understood why it had been revered by so many.

Now, I'm no musician, but I know good music when I hear it. Santana's album is the kinda CD you can just put in the CD player , start your engine and take a nice long scenic drive to the beach with. It is very relaxing , to say the least. Track #2 features a song with Dave Mathews called "Love of My Life" that totally calms the soul and the instrumentation on "The Calling" , a collaboration between Santana and Eric Clapton is hauntingly beautiful, and there is an excellent blend of instrumentation and vocals on the track "Wishing it was", featuring Eagle-Eye Cherry. It seems that Santana knows exactly how to bring out the best in each artiste

On his own,  Santana shows why he is revered as one of the best in the business, an example of this is track #11, "El Farol", a beautiful piece of instrumentation. I must admit that I was never really listened to too much of his music before this album, but that has changed. I find myself actually seeking out more of his older stuff now more than ever before.

So to conclude, this is one of, if not the best album I've heard this year. It is a definite must buy for connoisseurs of good music.

slick_rick.jpg (8696 bytes) The Ruler has Returned !

Rick the ruler has definately returned. Ok, I know this review has been long overdue, but hey I got a life too ya know. Anyway, I gotta say that I love this album ! After not hearing from Rick in such a long time it's good to seen him back on the scene again.

Slick Rick's style is something that cannot be matched by anyone. I grew up listening to Rick back in the 80's and I gotta say that he is still true to form. That smooth style and storytelling lyrics is even more so evident in his latest offering "The Art of Storytelling".

The Album features the hit single "Street Talkin" which has one of the phatest beats I've hard in a long time.

My altime favourites on this album are :

Jail Skit

Street Talkin

Adults Only (You gotta hear this !)

Of Course the albun has LIVE versions of  the two Ricky D and Doug E. Fresh Hits "La Di Da Di" and "The Show" which are true collectors items if you love these classics. I saw them in this concert on BET and they brought down the house !!!!!

A definate must buy if you're a connoisseur of classic rap like myself.
